The author of Blue Highways has undertaken a majestic survey of land and time and people on the Kansas plains. Prairy Erth takes William Least Heat-Moon - by car, on foot and in mind - into the core of our continent and backward and forward through a brilliant spectrum of time and space.
It focuses on the landscape and history of Chase County, a sparsely populated tract of tallgrass prairie in the Flint Hills of Central Kansas, to account for its land, plants, animals and people until it looms large as the universe.
